Bugatti Sur Mesure has revealed one of its most intricate and poetic commissions yet: the W16 Mistral “Fly Bug”, a one-of-one creation inspired by the dragonfly.

The car is the latest chapter in a remarkable collection commissioned by a loyal Bugatti collector. This private series already includes the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse “Hellbug,” the Chiron “Hellbee,” and the Divo “Lady Bug.” Each car draws inspiration from the natural world, focusing on small creatures known for their complexity, color, and movement.

For the W16 Mistral “Fly Bug,” Bugatti turned to the dragonfly as the central visual theme. The result is a roadster that combines elegance, craftsmanship, and technical precision with a design language inspired by iridescent wings and effortless speed.

The exterior is finished in a bespoke color called Dragonfly Blue, developed specifically for this commission. Depending on the light and viewing angle, the paint shifts between blue and turquoise, echoing the shimmering quality of a dragonfly’s wings. The color is also carried onto the wheel rims, carefully matched to the body despite the different materials and paint systems involved.

A distinctive ellipse pattern spreads across the exterior, growing denser toward the rear of the car and fading into the darkness of the air intakes. This evolving motif connects the Fly Bug to the collector’s previous Bugatti commissions while giving the Mistral its own identity.

One of the most technically demanding details is the integration of the Bugatti Macaron into the painted ellipse graphic on the car’s flank. According to Bugatti, this is the first time the iconic oval emblem has been woven into a painted graphic in this way. Achieving the correct scale, placement, and detail required exceptional precision.

Inside, the theme continues with an exclusive multi-layered material combining leather over Alcantara in a geometric pattern. Color-matched to Dragonfly Blue, the material creates a three-dimensional effect through a specialist finishing technique. Bugatti also applied the graphic pattern across both the door panel face and the armrest area for the first time, requiring close collaboration between design and engineering teams.

The gear selector features the famous “Dancing Elephant,” a reference to Rembrandt Bugatti and his animal sculptures. It also reinforces the owner’s appreciation for the natural world, which sits at the heart of this unique collection.

The W16 Mistral “Fly Bug” is not just another customized hypercar. It is a deeply personal commission that brings together design, storytelling, craftsmanship, and heritage. It also demonstrates how Bugatti Sur Mesure can transform a customer’s vision into a rolling piece of art.

With its bespoke Dragonfly Blue finish, complex ellipse graphics, unique interior materials, and nature-inspired symbolism, the Bugatti W16 Mistral “Fly Bug” stands as one of the most expressive Sur Mesure creations from Molsheim.
