The BMW i3, built on the Neue Klasse platform, represents a fundamental shift in how electric vehicles are engineered, experienced, and integrated into daily mobility.

Rather than simply electrifying an existing model, BMW has developed a new architectural foundation that redefines the relationship between performance, efficiency, and digital systems. With a projected range of up to 900 km and 800-volt charging capability delivering up to 400 km in just 10 minutes, the i3 establishes a new benchmark for long-distance electric usability.

At the core of this transformation is a completely new electronic architecture, structured around four high-performance “superbrains.” These systems manage driving dynamics, automated driving, infotainment, and comfort functions, forming a unified digital nervous system with significantly increased processing power. This integration allows the vehicle to operate with greater precision, adaptability, and responsiveness than previous generations.

Driving dynamics are further enhanced by the “Heart of Joy” control unit, which processes inputs and vehicle responses at speeds up to ten times faster than conventional systems. Combined with advanced suspension geometry and a low center of gravity enabled by the battery layout, the result is a driving experience that maintains BMW’s hallmark precision while adapting it to the characteristics of electric propulsion.

Design follows the same principle of reduction and clarity. The exterior adopts a modern 2.5-box silhouette with clean surfaces, a reinterpreted kidney grille, and a forward-leaning stance. Inside, the BMW Panoramic iDrive introduces a new interaction model, projecting information across the windshield while integrating physical and digital controls into a cohesive interface.

Beyond performance and design, the i3 reflects a broader systemic approach to sustainability. From battery cell design and material selection to production and lifecycle emissions, the vehicle is engineered with circularity and efficiency in mind, demonstrating how electrification can extend beyond propulsion into the entire product ecosystem.

The Neue Klasse i3 is not just an evolution of a model—it is a redefinition of the electric sedan as a fully integrated system where software, hardware, and design operate as one.
